 Lost Pet Information

Before your pet is lost... Make sure the following 4 things are done!

• Have your companion animal microchipped

• Have ID Tags on your pet .... include an alternate Phone # of someone who can quickly recover your animal if you are unavailable.

• Have a folder of information for your animal including... a recent photo, the License #, The Microchip #, a full description, phone #'s of your veterinarian, closest shelter, friends whom you can call on to assist in your search. Make sure you have the animals Weight, as all shelters weight the animals on intake.

• Make sure your companion Animal has a current valid License with a tag and a rabies certificate (Tag) and the #'s written down.

Some local papers provide free "Found Pet" but most charge for "Lost Pet"

 After Your Pet Is Missing

• The first step is to contact the Animal Control office for your area. Make sure they have the current contact information and phone # for you.
• Walk your neighborhood and call your pets name. Be sure to ask everyone you see about your missing pet. Have cards with your phone # and info to hand out in case they find your pet later.
• Then contact all the local shelters.... including Gov. and Private.
• Place posters, and or "Ad Cards" on bulletin boards in local Laundromats, Stores, Senior Centers and any other places you can legally do so. Make sure the phone # you give has an answering device as you will be out looking for your missing companion.
• Re-Check those shelters often.... and in person.... What may look like a Beagle/Collie mix to you may be identified as a Collie/Jack Russell mix to someone else. Check all animals that have the right weight and color at each shelter regardless of the "description"
• Check with local Veterinarians to see if they have any reports of lost animals. All Veterinarians turn in any animals they receive to Animal Control unless they are treating the Animal for illness or injury.
